About Lithuanian photography of the seventh decade 2013-08-02

Maksim Ivanov

The evaluations of Lithuanian photography discussed by the author may be distributed to two groups: interpretation of Lithuanian photography as a form of certain resistance to social realism versus interpretation of Lithuanian photography as one of the forms of social realism. In fact, the question regarding the conformism of Sutkus, Rakauskas and their colleagues is raised.

R.Juškelis. "Reservists"

Creative archives today: “Reservists” of Romas Juškelis 2013-06-26

Tomas Pabedinskas

The organisers call the exhibition of Kaunas photographer Romas Juškelis “Reservists” showcased at Kaunas Photography Gallery a premiere. Works of this cycle could not be displayed until 1990 due to the political situation; the entire series was never presented after the restoration of Lithuania’s independence too. It may also be stated that the exhibition of R. Juškelis “Reservists” continues the series of “discoveries” of archives of photography and their presentation on the stage of contemporary photography.

Milda Kiaušaitė

The album “Eastern Prussia” of the art photographer Raimundas Urbonas (1963 – 1999) published by Kitas Takas (2012) after his death is marked with a clear sign of history – the photographer worked in a strictly defined territory that was closely related with the past of Lithuania, the process of inevitable decay and change may be felt in works. Despite these features, the author does not want to call the cycle of Eastern Prussia a simple quotation of reality.

PHOTOGRAPHY OF PERIPHERY 2013-04-29

Tomas Pabedinskas

International recognition and attention of art professionals does not solve sensitive issues provoked by momentous works of R.Vikšraitis. Is it ethical to exhibit views of social degradation or unsuccessful personal lives in exhibition halls? How much is the life of R. Vikšraitis’ photographs real? What actual issues does foreign audience see in the works of the Lithuanian artist and why do specialists of photography estimate these photographs?

CHANGE OF TIME, DISTANCES AND US 2010-12-16

Milda Kiaušaitė

By his photographs V.Luckus laughs at the theatre of daily life. A wincing young photographer, perplexed glances of elderly women, static old people feeling unsettled inside… The photographer has erased everything that hides the most important features. Meanwhile, the viewer is granted the possibility to see himself/herself in the clean white background.
