A few observations about The Summer of Sangailė 2015-08-26
The famous film "The Summer of Sangailė" from the director Alantė Kavaitė finally reached Lithuanian cinemas and a wider audience, on the 21st of August. The film is not without flaws, but it is worth seeing, not just because, as it is said, to support national film.
The abstract photography of Rimgaudas and Dangirutė Maleckai 2015-08-06
By carefully examining the creative retrospective of Rimgaudas and Dangirutė Maleckai at the Kaunas M. and K. Petrauskai Lithuanian Music Museum I oddly meet the history of the 20th century visual art. In their photographs I see documentary and its bold, experimental fragmentation; I see images of reality that turned into abstraction and even double frames, distorting reality.
Greek traditions in photography exhibition “Shadows of Silence” 2015-08-04
The photography exhibition of the well-known Greek photographer John Demos is open at Kaunas Photography Gallery. In the exhibition, the author has captured people met during his trips in Greece, their surroundings and the mood. The man and the Greek landscape or architectural elements form an indivisible whole of the black-white photos and create a symbolic metaphysical Greek human portrait.
Embarrassing theme 2015-06-23
Love and sexual relations in the films “Fifty Shades of Grey” (2015, director Sam Taylor-Johnson) and “Nymphomaniac” (2013, director Lars von Trier) – this is the embarrassing theme of the article. Lithuanian critics are persistently silent about the first film, while several reviews have been written about the film of the Danish director in our country.
A look at "Lithuanian People" 2015-05-19
Exhibition at the Kaunas photography gallery, which created a stereotype-free context for understanding A. Sutkus photographs, reminds us that every "meeting" with a photography classics can be a new one without repeating the previous experiences. This possibility is also provided by the photography itself, which does not kill the captured moments with their clear interpretation.
The scents of "Cinema Spring" 2015-04-03
Already a 20th "Cinema Spring." In no other Lithuanian film festival will you see so many trendy people, who look like they had just stepped down from the cover of the magazine; big and small celebrities, sponsor's advertisements broadcasted in various ways, people of cinema, program related festival events and bustle. No wonder that such a massive event receives many and very diverse opinions. Big festival, perhaps, should be like that - offering both an avant-garde and culinary cinema.
The embodiment of intangible states 2015-03-24
The presentation of Reminigus Treigys works at the Kaunas photography gallery and the publishing of his album by Lithuanian Photographers' Association Foundation, at least today, seem like stage events. They allow us to evaluate the entirety of photographer's works - only the whole and not the individual works or series.
Winter Screens. Film, not only for a policeman 2015-02-12
L. Belvaux film "One Night" which was showed at the Winter Screens, and has also opened a Rotterdam International Film Festival, is a film that you can't get out of your head - on the contrary, after the ending titles you start to think about it more intensively. Film, which should be screened over, and over again, because it is so technically brilliant that does not leave anyone untouched.
