The fact that essential changes take place inside of the festival, that attempts are made to form its identity anew, that the organizers are getting away from the competitive fight with other main Lithuanian film festivals is most probably testified by the much shorter programme of the festival of this year: in addition to the retrospective of the Hungarian classic Jancsó and the main programme, Ukrainian films were shown. The shorter programme is not a bad phenomenon by itself, it could be the chance to raise the level of the festival. However, did the 8th festival succeed to do this?
“Uncommitted” photography 2014-09-29
The autumn part of art photography festival Kaunas Photo rallied a big crowd of enthusiasts and professionals of photography to exhibition halls. The festival organised in Kaunas corresponds to all features typical of contemporary photography festivals: it attracted attention of visitors by its large scale (three exhibitions at Kaunas M. Žilinskas Art Gallery, two expositions organised in the open-air in public city spaces), events creating festive mood (opening events of exhibitions, meetings with authors, nights of photography) and discussions and lectures of professionals for the audience interested in photography deeper.

The ones who anticipate aesthetic or touching erotic scenes from the film “Nymphomaniac” will be frustrated – there are many of such scenes but they do not make one laugh, do not cause emotion or aesthetic admiration.
