FROM DELICATE CINEMA TO RUSSIAN BRUTALITY ON SCREEN OF KARLOVY VARY 2009-08-03

The 44th international film festival was organised in the resort town of Czech Republic Karlovy Vary in July. It revealed the entire palette of colours of contemporary cinema of the world. Post-soviet countries demonstrated surplus of frustration, Russians made one shudder by brutal films, while Lithuanians represented their country worthily.

CLASSICS OF PAINTING LIVE: VILNIUS AND UŽUTRAKIS, ČIURLIONIS AND HIS CONTEMPORARIES WEISS 2009-08-12

This summer offered a number of wonderful exhibitions in Lithuanian galleries and museums. The variety of exhibited works brought back discussions about painting and history of art, collecting and buying of artworks to the press and parties again; exhibitions are visited several times in order to look at works closer.

In brief: Oppressive mood appears while walking in public spaces of Lithuanian cities. This mood becomes event worse in the public spaces of Kaunas, which has an exceptional history of culture. The public spaces of this city are extremely stagnant and restricted by monumentalism.

The end of the summer is the perfect time for discussion about plein-airs, creative camps and symposiums. It is an old and important tradition of European art; however, it has sadly changed almost beyond recognition now. It is time to evaluate the results of plein-air activity honestly and to reconsider the system of organising plein-airs.
