The conception and evolution of Chekhov‘s method. 2014-10-28

Justinas Kalinauskas

In Brief: In the context of the Russian theater of early 20th century, M. Chekhov could be considered to be one of the most prominent drama actors of that period. He played a significant role in the formation of the modern theatrical tradition. But M. Chekhov’s career in theater theory and pedagogy relates to much broader contexts of Western Europe and USA.

So much vanity – everything is vanity 2014-10-27

Kristina Steiblytė

In Brief: After such performance it becomes really clear that it does not matter which boy puts on a cap that symbolizes the crown, which one of them will take the golden microphone that depicts a scepter – nothing is going to change. We will still see how a self-absorbed king is wanking while admiring his reflection. It seems, that this is what the play intended to convey.

A festival for those who do not count time – AURA 24 2014-10-26

Sigita Ivaškaitė

In brief. For quite some time, “Aura” festival was commonly considered to be more of a modern dance festival rather than contemporary, but this year’s programme seemed to be more diverse and much more relevant than the one offered by the Vilnius festival “The new Baltic dance.”

How should classics be decontaminated? 2014-10-22

Lina Klusaitė

Classics does not get old? You are joking, some educated spectator would say after watching two premieres of state theatres presented in Lithuania this autumn. The theatrical season started as usual this year – with time-tested classical works staged on big stages by well-known directors of elder generation: performance of Jonas Vaitkus “King Lear” presented at the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theatre and performance “Barbora” of Jonas Jurašas at the National Kaunas Drama Theatre.

Cuisine at dawn 2014-10-10

Promises make a good supplement to food. They may be of different consistence, colour and flavour. They may grant exceptional qualities to food and may spoil it. What does it have in common with sauce? The word sauce was used as a joke before the premiere of the performance “Promise at Dawn at Kaunas National Drama Theatre on October 4 and 5. Even the reading of the novel “Promise at Dawn” of Romain Gary did not help to forget the joke. Still, after watching the performance no thoughts about gravies remained.

Performance “YOLO” – alarm for our sleeping consciousness 2014-09-10

Ieva Tumanovičiūtė

What would YOU do if you could live only as long as the match is burning? This is the question given by the creators of the performance “YOLO” to the audience which gathered in the Small Hall of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre on September 6.

The book about the last Barbora 2014-08-07

Lina Klusaitė

The review of the book compiled by Svajūnas Sabaliauskas “Rūta Staliliūnaitė. I am Barbora. Recollections about the Queen of Stage” (Obuolys Publishing House) is presented. As the book consists of memories about the late actress, memories can hardly be reviewed, the author marks. And the book is as valuable as people who remember Rūta in their stories are interesting.

“Cosmos +” = theatre + science 2014-06-13

Deimantė Dementavičiūtė-Stankuvienė

A special premiere was presented in Vilnius – the joint work of the Danish group Hotel Pro Forma and Lithuanian National Drama Theatre “Cosmos+”. The author has heard a lot about the Danish theatre Hotel Pro Forma and video recordings of its performance have left an impression on her. Also, the theme of cosmos explored in the performance intrigued due to the personal interest in secrets of cosmos. The exceptional cosmic reality was created on the stage by the founder of the theatre Hotel Pro Forma, director Kirsten Dehlholm.
