In brief: V. Pilipauskaitė-Butkienė book of poems "I breathe" (Kvėpuoju, 2015, Vilnius: Lietuvos rašytojų sąjungos leidykla) is a very open and also a fragile poetry of woman's soul. In the book the author identifies with the women talking and tells their stories, which are often shocking. She not only sums up her own experience but also the experience of many women.

It has become a tradition that in fall Lithuanian Writers' Association presents two young authors' books. One of those authors is Vitalija Pilipauskaitė-Butkienė (1981) - author of texts, poet, literary scholar, doula and event organizer. Her book of poems "I breathe" won the First book contest - in the poetry category - organized by Lithuanian Writers' Association's publishing house.

V. Pilipauskaitė-Butkienė poems are characterized by a contemporary form. Author is playing with words (poem "women's network..."), genres (poem "Ballad") and even the literary motifs of other countries (poem "Japanese-like"). The book contains the series of poems, as well as short poems.

The book of poems "I breathe" contains a lot of corporeality, therefore senses are important here. Life is primarily experienced through sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. Life in V. Pilipauskaitė-Butkienė poems is perceived as phenomenon. However, it is not embellished, because the author raises various family and social problems. In a voice of a child, woman or man she speaks of the situations of aggression, violence, disease and death.

Family and kinship ties are very important to V. Pilipauskaitė-Butkienė; the transfer of experience from one generation to the next. A bond is created in the poems - between mother and children and between the women of the immediate or extended family. The mother and child relationship is best revealed in "My first child's poem", "My second child's poem" and "My third child's poem", which highlights the miracle of birth and mother's infinite love for children.

Each poem can also be understood as a body being born out of the tissue of thoughts. In the book author opens up as a creator. In the poem "Best poems" V. Pilipauskaitė-Butkienė emphasizes that the best poems are written not on paper or in computer but in one’s thoughts.
