In brief: Throughout February, Vilnius Titanikas exhibition halls are hosting an exhibition of Vilnius Academy of Arts, Kaunas Faculty Glass Department students' works. The exhibition invites to review the recent works of the students.

Currently, the Glass Department offers an undergraduate program in glass. In this program students learn the basic hot and cold glass processing technologies; they master sculptural, painterly, graphic and optical means of expression in glass. By implementing the course tasks students create three-dimensional plastic of glass, interior design objects and acquire the basics of creating classical and modern stained glass.

The title of the exhibition - Context - was chosen deliberately. On the one hand, the exhibition provided an opportunity for the viewer to get acquainted with the glass art development in Lithuania (vertical dimension). On the other hand (and this is, without a doubt, of the essence) this exhibition contextually reflects the creative experiments of the glass students of the last decade (horizontal dimension).

The conceptual art context in the exhibition could be illustrated by Audronė Andrulevičienė’s glass plate Moments, which depicts the socially disadvantaged rural people, the poor. Several glass fragments merged into one series convey the life states of simple (or lost) human being - it focuses on the topic of "marginalized human."

Valda Verikaitė's Master's work is an original optical installation Monotony, which is based on the visual change of the mosaic ornament. In this artwork artist focused on highlighting the structures, multitude of elements, different materials and shapes, color contrast and the harmony between light and its reflections.

Julija Pociūtė's video installation Four empty walls also belongs to the conceptual works. This author used difficult glass working technologies and contemporary media tools.

The glass pieces that seemingly do not have a complex semantic load, but primarily operate in the so-called glass parameters - optics, glossiness, transparency or material and fragility - also look quite effective in the exhibition Context. This would be Nijolė Kovaitė's work Ardor - it is a cube, which is just interesting to watch from various sides, because the geometric glass inclusions masterfully "implanted” into it create the attractiveness and magic of this playful glass object.

The young artists' works showcased at the Context exhibition apparently point to the truly original artistic positions of the authors demonstrating that Glass Department students’ artistic thinking and means of expression are based on the variety of creative provisions and mastery of different technical skills and technologies. This undoubtedly expands and renews our glass art school along with the general panorama of contemporary Lithuanian glass.
