The exhibition of drawings of lecturers and former students of Vilnius Academy of arts, Kaunas Art Faculty “Contemporary Lithuanian Drawing” is open in Warsaw, at the gallery of the Academy of Arts.

The curator of the exhibition is Doc. R.Mulevičius, the introduction for the catalogue was written by Hab.Dr.Prof. Algis Uždavinys (1962-2010). The exposition in Warsaw was formed and organised by Prof. A.Weglowski.

The exhibition “Contemporary Lithuanian Drawing” is the first visit card presenting the main tendencies of attitude of Kaunas artists to contemporary drawing. Continuing the rich and versatile tradition of European drawing, Kaunas artists find persuasive and original style for expressing and reflecting their epoch. This attitude unites the participants of the exhibition.

The exhibition was opened at the gallery in a calm Warsaw street on a warm and cosy evening. Representatives of Warsaw Academy, the Lithuanian cultural attaché in Poland, the dean of Vilnius Academy of arts, Kaunas Art Faculty Doc. Jonas Audėjaitis said speeches. The well-known Lithuanian artist Stasys Eidrigevičius visited the exhibition. The colleague and friend A.Marcinkewicz arrived from the nearby Art Faculty of Radom. It was pleasant to feel the cosy attention of Polish colleagues to Lithuanians and works of Lithuanian artists.

The drawings selected by the curator Doc. R.Mulevičius responsibly represented the artistic position of the artists participating in the exhibition well. Afterwards the new book of Prof. A.Uždavinys was presented. This was done impressively (as always) by the author of the book himself. The evening ended with lively discussions at a table of Lithuanian beer and cheeses.

The hosts of the exhibition were impressed by the razorblade sharp improvisations of Rimvydas Rimkūnas. Attention was paid that everybody could draw in the exhibition of Lithuanians: sculptors, painters, textile artists and ceramicists. An idea was born to create a joint project along with French and Polish artists in the famous Loire Valley in France.

Unfortunately, one of the participants of Warsaw exhibition is no longer with us. After the recent triumph at Warsaw Academy of Arts, A.Uždavinys died unexpectedly. Algis gave a lot to our small nation: antique philosophy studies, works about ancient civilisations of the Middle East and culture of Islam. No other scientists explored these themes without him in Lithuania. A scientist of outstanding talent and diligence, who has written the introduction for the exhibition in Warsaw, has left us.

The exhibition of drawings of lecturers and former students of Vilnius Academy of arts, Kaunas Art Faculty “Contemporary Lithuanian Drawing” open in Warsaw, at the gallery of the Academy of Arts from the 29th of June will be further exhibited in two other Warsaw galleries until November of this year.
