The most memorable artists of Kaunas

The annual awards of the most outstanding creator of professional art is the tradition of Kaunas Artists’ House. Candidates to be awarded the title of Artist of the Year are offered by creative unions and art users.

The final decision is accepted by the Board of the Artists’ House operating as a public body. The diploma of the most memorable artist of the year is granted solemnly at the end of December, and his/her name is inscribed on the “Winged Column”, which is constantly exhibited at the Artists’ House.

2015

Composer Zita Bružaitė for important creative deposit into the treasury of Lithuanian academic music, for music pieces created and performed for the first time in 2015.

Poet, writer Aldona Ruseckaitė for fiction (poetry book “Better (not) to Forget” and biographical novel “Secret of Žemaitė”) and active museology activity.

2014

Actor Dainius Svobonas – for the synthesis of theatrical means of expression based on professionalism while embodying the character of Žygimantas Augustas in the performance “Barbora” (dir. J.Jurašas) and readings of texts of K. Donelaitis in the programme "Yes, Donelaitis! Four Sermons”.

2013

Composer Dalia Kairaitytė – for active cherishing of chamber music, works created in 2013: vocal cycle “Incantations”, “Three Praises according to Motiejus Kazimieras Sarbievijus” for voice, flute, viola and harpsichord and original CD “Visions” released in 2013.

2012

Writer Donaldas Kajokas - for the book "The Lake and Other Accompanying Persons" published in 2012.

2011

Writer Jurgis Gimberis – for the book of humoresques There are Further Conditions.

2010

Painter Elena Kniūkštaitė - for the retrospective exhibition of 35 years of creation at Kaunas Picture Gallery.

Pianist Rokas Zubovas - for the cycle of piano music concerts of M.K.Čiurlionis Cities of Čiurlionis.

2009

The artist Česlovas Lukenskas – for the exhibition-installation “Traumiser” of 2009 and the retrospective exhibition “Moto-graphics – Over-painting – Over-binding”.

The poet Gintaras Patackas – for consolidation of Kaunas identity in poetry and the book “Except for the Meeting at the Post-office”.

A creative group was evaluated in the election of the most memorable artists of Kaunas for the first time. Kaunas String Quartetbecame the winner of this category – for propagating works of Kaunas and Lithuanian composers in Lithuania and the world.

2008

Architect Eugenijus Miliūnas – for Kaunas arena project already built in the Nemunas island.

Designer Monika Vilčinskienė – for impressive postcards and social advertisement cycle “Kaunas. It is My City, No Matter Where I am”.

2007

Art photographer Gintaras Česonis – for photography albums Tėvas Stanislovas (Father Stanislovas) and Pasivaikščiojimai po Kauno tvirtovę (Walks in Kaunas Fortress).  

2006

Poet, essayist Kęstutis Navakas – for successful creative burst and the latter poetry book Atspėtos Fleitos (Guessed Flutes).

Art photographer Romualdas Rakauskas – for the unwearied statement of beauty and exhibitions in Lithuania.

2005

Composer Vidmantas Bartulis for new original music pieces.

Art photographer Romualdas Požerskis for the album of the best works of all life Atminties Sodai (Gardens of Memory).  

2004

Poetess, actress, playwright Daiva Čepauskaitė for the poetry book Nereikia Tikriausiai Būtina (Not Needed Most Probably Necessary) and the play Atviras Lūžis (Open Break).

Art Director and Chief Conductor of Kaunas State Choir Petras Bingelis for works of Lithuanian composers and world classics prepared and performed in 2004.

2003

Composer Giedrius Kuprevičius for the opera Jobas, operetta Kipras, Fiodoras and Others and the music piece for the voice and symphony orchestra Eight Metaphysical Romances.

2002

Sculptor Robertas Antinis for the memorial Field of Victims and the sculpture Alone.

2001

Actress Rūta Staliliūnaitė for the cycle of events for the 100th birth anniversary of Juozas Grušas In Search of Human Truth.

Sculptor Leonas Strioga for exhibitions of wood sculpture of 2001.

2000

Soloist Sabina Martinaitytė for the part of Madalen in the opera by Umbert Giordan Andre Chenier and for vocal music programmes of the 20th century.

1999

Graphic Romualdas Čarna for the exhibition of past life My Trip.
