Sound

Let the chronicle of brilliant work sound 2016-02-04

Elvina Baužaitė

V. Gerulaitis' book Virgilijus Noreika, "And wherever I'd go..." (Virgilijus Noreika: „Ir kur benueičiau...“ 2015, Vilnius: Tyto alba) appeared last year, in 2015, but the silence in the public space (without thinking that several messages and V. Noreika’s biography summaries - as if repeating the text of the book, which are neither reviews, nor critical articles - are not the needed, the right and enough resonance) simply pushes to take this non-traditional monograph and speak about this work that is very important not only to Lithuanian music but also to the whole culture.

Greta Andriuškevičiūtė

Giedrius Kuprevičius, who celebrated his birthday jubilee last year, crowns the date with festival of musicals - "Singing Theatre" that will take place on the 24th to 26th of March. I talked to G. Kuprevičius about his moods before the festival, why some of the performances are brought to Kaunas only now and what place does the musical occupy in the composers creative life.

Tautvydas Bajarkevičius

The author resolved to watch almost the entire programme of the festival Gaida this year and felt its festive solemnity. This feeling was reinforced by the programme full of large volume works, monumental forms and outstanding personalities. The impression was created that this festival was exceptional by these features as compared to previous festivals.

Edvinas Grin

The international media art and music festival “Centre” invited to visit several spaces in the centre of Kaunas on April 8-14. The festival is organised since 2002, and the need for the format of the festival appeared when the synthesis of different art disciplines, science and medias became an actual and separate form of cultural communication.

PLEASURES OF LISTENING IN THE FESTIVAL JAUNA MUZIKA OF THIS YEAR 2013-04-17

Tautvydas Bajarkevičius

The annual festival Jauna Muzika dedicated to contemporary music took place in Vilnius on April 2–7. From the very beginning of its existence, when the festival had a subheading “e-music”, its biggest part was dedicated to electronic music. This tendency remains until now with some exceptions. The subheading was changed to the more abstract “sound gallery” several years ago. Jauna Muzika also presents a wide spectrum of contemporary academic music – it is very natural for an event organised by the Composers’ Union.

The book “Lithuanian Rock Pioneers” written by the leader of the eclectic rock band Skylė Rokas Radzevičius is about the music style that has always been identified with freedom, challenge, creative searches and that can be called “conscience of the awakening humanity”.

AVANT-GARDE CABARET: VARIATIONS ON THEME OF TRADITION 2011-08-09

Justina Paltanavičiūtė

Comedy, dance, songs, theatre – everything at the same time. A night club at the crossing of the 19th and 20th century, in the twilight of which stylish ladies sparkle and gentlemen sit at tables. Traditional cabaret could be French, Dutch, German or American. Music of cabaret style resounded in one of Pažaislis Music Festival concerts too.

JUBILEE OPERETTA AT KAUNAS CASTLE 2011-07-15

One should remember that the festival Operetta at Kaunas Castle is always free of charge, summerly, taking place in the open air; therefore, it is not too obliging. It is simply a wonderful possibility for classical stage music lovers to admirer music and their favourite performers. Evidently, the offer satisfied the demand, and this fact proves that the festival has deep traditions. Let's expect that it will live long.

200TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF F. LISZT ALONG WITH L. GENIUŠAS 2011-07-11

One of the events dedicated to the 200th anniversary of F. Liszt was organised by Pažaislis Music Festival on the evening of the 30th of June. The pianist L.Geniušas played the piano at Kaunas Philharmonic Hall. The audience heard masterpieces of two romantics interpreted in a traditional and at the same time individual and intimate manner: manly, sensitive and modest Chopin and very philosophical Liszt.

POP FIESTA IN PAŽAISLIS MUSIC FESTIVAL 2011-06-13

According to the musicologist Lawrence Kramer, funeral lament sounds to classical music lately. One could state that it also sounded in Pažaislis Music Festival. However, we should not bury this genre of music: the festival offers other classical or at least academic music concerts throughout the summer, not to mention the fact that some of them have already been presented before. Hopefully, representatives of the classical music world will take a thought about values of classical music and lack of originality and that opuses of Lady Gaga will sound in places suitable for them rather than in monasteries.
