In brief: As they say, the first pancake is always slightly burnt. Evidently, it is important what oil is used... The first "pancake" of the rather young collective Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra was presented on the eve of St. Christmas – the first compact disk is called by the intriguing name “Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra and Virgilijus Noreika”. The tandem raises some questions. Evidently, the rather young orchestra needed a person whose name and experience would advertise the new project.

A merry spirit prevailed during the presentation of the compact disk, it was also increased by the playful statements of the head of the evening Prof. Giedrius Kuprevičius. It was an allusion to the content of the CD in which melodious and convivial music prevails. Both the conductor V.Lukočius and the head of the orchestra Algimantas Treikauskas stated that music pieces that may not be detected in other recordings were selected for the repertoire of the CD.

Three orchestra music pieces - A.Ponchielli “Dance of Clock” from the opera “Joconda“, mazurka by S.Moniuszka from the opera “Halka” and J.Giménez interact from zarzuela “Wedding of Luis Alons” are among such rarer works. Some unique vocal pieces may be traced in recordings as well - the song of Singer from the opera of A.Arenski “Rafael”, P.Guidi “Prayer", aria of Adam from the operetta of C.Zeller “Seller of Birds”. Music pieces by Lithuanian composers have not been forgotten too.

The spirit of the approximating St. Christmas may be felt in the melodic, spiritual and expressive music recorded in the CD of the Symphony Orchestra and Virgilijus Noreika. No burnt taste was felt during the presentation of the recording of the young collective round the town hall of Kaunas as well. Thus, the oil was of high quality, one may say.
