Aleksandras Rubinovas was born in Vilnius on September 17, 1956. He graduated from Kaunas Communist Youth School in 1974 and studied in Šiauliai Drama Theatre Studio till 1975 (head by the artistic director Aurelija Ragauskaitė).
In 1975 he entered Moscow State Theatre Institute (head of GITIS course Josif Tumanov), from which he graduated in 1979. Here he obtained the specialty of a drama and cinema actor.
In 1979 – 1980 he worked at Kaunas Drama Theatre under the supervision of the artistic director Jonas Vaitkus.
From 1980 Aleksandras Rubinovas was the actor and artistic director of the Youth Theatre – Studio, later – at Kaunas Youth Chamber Theatre, and now – at Kaunas Chamber Theatre.
He has created more than 40 roles, among them 5 roles in mono-performances: Just.Marcinkevičius “Heroica, or Condemnation of Prometheus”, L.Andrejev “Judas Iscariot” (prize for the best man’s role in the festival “Baltyjskij Dom” in 1997, festivals in Pilzen, Kiev, Parnu, Perme, Saint-Petersburg, etc.), P.Lagerkvist “Dwarf” (3rd prize in the festival “Monocle” in 2001), P.Ziuskind “Double-Bass” (1stprize in the festival “Monocle” in Saint Petersburg in 2003), “Midget”.
He has directed more than 20 performances, mostly for children.
Rubinovas has created many pageants: Francois Rablelais “Gargantua and Pantagruel”, Jerome K. Jerome “Three Men in a Boat (Despite the Dog)”, etc.
He has directed 3 documentaries: “To Survive and Tell”, “Blooding August” and “Let’s Go from Curiosity...”.
He is organising poetry evenings, has created several solo programmes.
In 2000 – 2003 he worked at Kaunas Faculty of Vilnius Music Academy (headed the opera studio and lectured actor’s mastery classes).
A. Rubinovas has been awarded with “Fortune” prizes and diplomas. In 2006 he was granted Santaka sign of honour of the 3rd degree.
