Viktoras Šinkariukas: “I don’t want anything haphazardly”

Viktoras Šinkariukas was born in 1947. In 1965 he entered the Studio of Actors’ Art of Kaunas State Drama Theatre. From 1966 he was an actor of Kaunas State Drama Theatre. In 1974 he graduated from Moscow N. Lunachiarski Theatre Institute (GITIS), extramural studies. In 1986 he made a debut as an artistic director with the performance “Shooting Toy of Nikolaj Koliada” at the Drama Theatre. He is a winner of various theatre prizes, has a “Fortune” diploma. In 1994–1996 he headed Kaunas Higher Theatre School. He has created the following performances with students: “The Ones Who did not Reach Heaven” and “OPS” (according to the novel of Vladimir Nabokov “Invitation for Punishment”). The actor was awarded with Fortune diploma in 1999 and 2000. In 1989 the actor became the winner of the Festival of Baltic States Theatres for the role of Pontius Pilot and Bazarbaj in the performance “Golgotha”, in 1985 he was granted the winner’s name in the Festival of Lithuanian Theatres for the role of Bushtec in the performance “Privates”. In 1978 he was awarded with a diploma in the Festival of Russian Classical Drama for Alexander’s role in the performance “The Last”. In 1974 and 1977 he became the winner of the Young Performers’ Contest.
