The Lithuanian Artists' Association announced that the on the painter and sculptor of Kaunas Jūratis Zalensas passed away on the 5th of February, 2015.

The fine artist and sculptor J. Zalensas was born on the 7th of July, 1952 in Riga. In 1978 he graduated as a sculptor from the Lithuanian State Art Institute (now Vilnius Academy of Arts). He started participating in exhibitions from 1976; became a member of Lithuanian Artists' Union in 1983. His work was inspired by A. Martinaitis and his artist parents Bronius and Valerija Zalensai. Artist lived and worked in Kaunas.

The artist started participating in exhibitions in 1976. From 1985 he worked in fields of sculpture and painting only. He has organised solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. Works of J. Zalensas are stored in the collection of the National M.K. Čiurlionis Art Museum and in private collections.

The power of the artist disclosed via colour and form. His works are constant and vital as nature in the contemporary world fighting and experiencing calamities and subtle victories. Even after a hard disease with which the artist fought for almost ten years, he returned to creative life and organised a number exhibitions thanks to the power of will and his optimism.
