In brief: Sofija Čiurlionienė-Kymantaitė (1886–1958) was a writer, playwright, poetess, critic, translator, teacher, lecturer, head of scouts, creator and practitioner of spiritual and moral development theory, activist and creator of the country, i.e. a woman whose fate was, in words of the literature researcher Viktorija Daujotytė-Pakerienė, “to lead and manage”. This year the 130th birth anniversary of S. Čiurlionienė-Kymantaitė is commemorated in Lithuania.

Eight volumes of Letters of S. Kymantaitė-Čiurlionienė were issued until 2013. This work lasted for 27 years. This year the book prepared by Aušra Martišiūtė-Linartienė “Thoughts on education of the nation. Culture criticism, publicist works, public lectures, conversations” (2016) was published.

“<...> There is nothing new in writing about Sofija. Rather much has been written, evaluated and re-evaluated. The phenomenon of Sofija attracts,” V. Daujotytė-Pakerienė admitted in the publication “Sofija” (2016) published at the beginning of this year. The literature researcher performed an exhaustive, sensitive and deep analysis of this personality, activity and works of S. Čiurlionienė-Kymantaitė. The professor of literature reveals the relation of Sofija and Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis attentively and very subtly.

Having in mind the anniversary of this great personality, the book “Sofija” inspired a conversation with the literature researcher, habilitated doctor of humanities, emeritus professor V. Daujotyte-Pakeriene (b. 1945), who has prepared a big number of thorough and deep scientific works about literature and literature personalities.
