In brief: It is hard to call the poetess Vaiva Kuodytė a debutant who has published her first book – the name of Vaiva is frequently mentioned in the cultural field for several years. Of course, it is necessary to make the effort, give the most usual questions of a family doctor that can reveal a non-standard literary contamination.

The conversation with the poetess is started from the most important event – the first book V.Kuodytė “Pakiša žvėrelei” (“A Bribe to Female Animal”). According to the poetess, she felt that her poems should be published “now or never” one day. At the end of last year Kaunas City Municipality found funds for a debutant writer and the book saw daylight very fast. The poetess is grateful to all people who contributed to its publication: the editor Donaldas Kajokas, artist Inga Zamulskienė, publishing house Kauko Laiptai. The poems included into the book were written for ten years. With the help of the editor D. Kajokas, the poems were lined according to the logic and thematic sequence instead of publishing them chronologically.

V.Kuodytė is asked whether one has to publish a book to be a poet with all rights. V.Kuodytė rephrases the question: “Is the poet who published a book more worthy than a poet who did not publish anything?” According to her, Lithuania is a nation of poets in general: the Lithuanian Writers’ Union has 372 members, and 203 of them are poets. Poets, like all other people have the right to create and publish books, the poetess believes. She also notices that a poet has to have two published books to be able to become a member of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union. Perhaps this is why poets publish books.

V.Kuodytė wrote a critical text about sluggish literary processes in 2007 but now she notices that the situation has changed. She rejoices about reviews of Andrius Jakučiūnas (Literatūra ir Menas) and Emilis Milkevičius (Šiaurės Atėnai), numerous reviews of books in the cultural press, reviews of Marius Burokas in bernardinai.lt and many other publications.
