‘Why is it Didelytė’s and not ours?’ – the writer Kazys Saja asks in the brand-new album ‘Gražina Didelytė’s Lithuania’. The graphic artist left us five years ago but her works still radiate life and love to the native land. Nine chapters of the album include a very broad chronological scale and present G. Didelytė’s outlook at the development of Lithuanian history. The artist’s creative heritage becomes a visual chronicle in the album that records the main political, cultural changes and most influential historical figures.

The number of publications presenting works of photography alternativists has increased over recent years. The album ‘Kaunas Avant-garde Photography: The Last Decade of the Soviet Period’ was published by Kaunas Department of Lithuanian Union of Photographers and Lithuanian Art Museum in 2011. Seven authors are presented in the album that is full of different styles, emotional charges, moods and techniques.

The audience was listening breathlessly to L. Geniušas‘s performance from the first accord to the last one. S. Rachmaninoff‘s music is not easy; it is full of quite complex musical structural textures; there are no sweet melodies favouring the heart, so the series became a challenge not only for the performer but also the listeners.

The architect Rimvydas Palys compares problems of Kaunas’ architectural heritage to a sick patient: solving every case separately is more important than diagnosing from books. It is relevant to evaluate the situation in terms of space and context, not laws only. In his opinion, the patient can be cured – good contemporary architecture would help more than attempts to recreate the mighty past.
