AMBER TRIO: FROM RATIONALITY TO PASSION 2011-05-11

Amber Trio organised a concert at the National M.K.Čiurlionis Art Museum on the 6th of May. They performed the concert for two violins and orchestra in d minor of J. S. Bach adapted to violin, viola and piano, Piano Trio in Es major of L. Van Beethoven, a cycle of plays of T. Makachin “Armenian Pages” and “Spring” of A. Piazzolla from the cycle “Seasons” during the concert. The afternoon of Amber Trio music was dynamic and interesting, full of diverse colours.

NEW VIOLETTA IN “LA TRAVIATA” OF G. VERDI 2011-04-21

The appearance of R. Vaicekauskaitė in the role of Violetta in the performance “La Traviata” was so striking that it dwarfed all old-timers. She attracted attention by sensitive and perfect singing, sincere and persuasive acting and the really felt drama of Violetta on the stage. The new Violetta was fragile and modestly dramatic, and she rendered the vocal and acting moments right from her heart.

NEW WINDS IN KAUNAS MUSICAL THEATRE 2011-04-11

The creators of the musical "Aida" rejoiced for the staging and shared compliments to each other. How did this musical reach Lithuania? EXOTICS AND TRADITIONAL JAZZ: GAIO DE LIMA QUINTET 2011-03-24

Exotic rhythms and melodies wrapped in the cover of jazz sounded delicately and tenderly rather than ardently; the music was played in professional and secure manner. The velvety voice of Gaio de Lima created the atmosphere of a lazy afternoon siesta, and Vitor Celestino played the seven-string guitar in a very subtle manner. Lithuanian musicians created an equally strong balance to the exotic performers.

MUSIC OF NORTHERN COUNTRIES AT KAUNAS STATE PHILHARMONIC HALL: CLASSICS AND SOMETHING ELSE 2011-03-22

In brief: “Edvard Grieg and Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis are two stars that shined on the periphery of Europe,” the head of Kaunas State Choir and principal conductor Petras Bingelis pointed out this link between the two composers. In fact, the composers are united not by the works but by the importance to their nations. The Music Festival of E.Grieg and M.K.Čiurlionis is organised in Kaunas for the 14th time already. It took place on the 9th-13th of March and became an introduction to events that will mark the centenary of death of M.K.Čiurlionis.

CHAMBER BIRTHDAY FESTIVAL 2011-03-04

In brief: St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra founded in Vilnius as the Municipality Ensemble in 1995 celebrated its 17thanniversary in Vilnius St. Catherine Church on the 15th of February and in Kaunas, at the State Philharmonic Hall on the 25th of February. The birthday celebrated at Kaunas State Philharmonic Hall was not crazy at all and quite temperate.

FLUTE + HARP = FA, OR DIAMONDS HIDDEN IN SNOW 2011-02-25

In brief: Flute and harp is an untraditional combination in the context of classical music. One could hear the sound of this duet in the White Hall of Kaunas State Musical Theatre on the 20th of February. The flutist Fausta Drulytė and harpist Viktorija Smailytė, who called themselves FA, performed music of their beloved instruments to listeners.

SPANISH SOUNDS AT KAUNAS STATE PHILHARMONIC HALL 2011-02-14

In brief: “The classical guitar is an instrument of high technical and artistic possibilities; it may be equalled to a rather big orchestra,” believes V. Mikuckis. The soloist gladdened listeners by sounds of his beloved instrument at Kaunas State Philharmonic Hall on the 9th of February.

MARGUERITE, FAUST OR MEPHISTOPHELES? 2011-01-28

There was not so much of love in this staging of “Marguerite”: it was not close to the orchestra, and Marguerite enjoyed being dramatic. Although Faust was sincerely in love, he became a secondary character of the opera. The main idea of the work is the victory of the good and love against evil; still, isn't this the case when the intellectual devil overshadowed everything in the performance and became the main character? Asking again: Marguerite, Faust or Mephistopheles, the author answers - Mephistopheles!
