An actor and head of Drama and Pantomime Theatre, director of TV broadcasts and cultural events, organiser and head of broadcasts Gintautas Ūzas died on August 4, 2006.

G.Ūzas was born in Kaunas in 1946. In 1965 he graduated from Šančiai Secondary School and later – from the Lithuanian State Conservatory (now – Academy of Music and Theatre).

He acted in Šiauliai and Vilnius State Drama Theatres. G.Ūzas was awarded with the prize of the Lithuanian Theatre Union.

The actor created more than ten important roles at Vilnius State Drama Theatre under the direction of H.Vancevičius, I.Bučienė, A.Lapėnas. At the same time he headed the TV broadcasts “Parlour“, “Bold, Strong and Quick“, acted in TV performances, participated in concert programmes.

G.Ūzas became popular as the programme head of the State Philharmonic ensemble “Vilniaus Aidai“. Lithuanian performers and guests from abroad remained thankful to him: S. Povilaitis, ensemble ABC and Lidija Kodrich, Laima Vaikulė, Valerij Leontjev, Michel and Zdislava Sosnicka, George Marijanovich and Kati Kovaxh. G.Ūzas worked on probation at Moscow Variety Theatre.

The last two decades of his life were related with Kaunas Pantomime Theatre where he worked as an actor and later as the director of the concert troupe. He was awarded with the prizes of the Lithuanian Theatre Union for concert programmes "Smiles of Life“ and “It did Happen“ in 2001 and 2002.

From 2003 to death G. Ūzas headed Kaunas Pantomime and Plastics Theatre.
