Looking at photographs of R. Vikšraitis, the viewer feels like participating in a pig slaughter described by Sigitas Parulskis in the essay “Killing”. The return to the village, to one’s roots and the dirt present there, which may not be washed by any detergents from hands and heart, leave a trace in the sub-conscience. Looking at photographs of R.Vikšraitis we realise that we do not want to see what is shown to us. Lithuanians close their eyes. Meanwhile, M.Parr titled the chronicler of our century opens his eyes widely.
The portal of professional art news updated daily in Lithuanian and English Kamane.lt, which was born at Kaunas Artists’ House, turned 5 years of age on the morning of the 5th of October. On this occasion a pleasantly heedful conference “Kamane.lt-5. What should we do about it?” was convened at Kaunas Artists’ House.
It is obvious that the theatre of effect and provoking shock is enjoyed in Lithuania. My interest in such theatre is decreasing with time. I always believed that it would be good to place an explosive under the chair of each spectator, the explosion of which would make a man think and open up. Such theatre is interesting. In brief: The 23rd contemporary jazz festival Vilnius Jazz will be remembered as the biggest in its entire history and one of the most interesting and colourful, even though not all projects corresponded to the declared direction of the festival; i.e., to show the newest phenomena of jazz and things that take avant-garde art ahead.
“Gardens of Emptiness” of E.Markūnas baffle the viewer. A question appears: what is the position of the artist who has created all this? The works of E.Markūnas try to shock; still, does this shock help us to look at the showed problems otherwise? The artist succeeded to make the viewer stop and dip into thought.
