Theatre serves as a vaccine: after seeing a real, live performance a person comes through a short illness, he/she pictures himself/herself in the place of the hero, thinks what he/she would do, whether he/she would have courage to behave in one or another way. I do not understand now looking around: the theatre seems to have lost its place, it looks confused and not knowing how to get to the organism of the state. Theatre is always the opposition to any authorities. Authorities do everything for the theatre to be toothless, unproblematic, they try to make it entertaining rather than speaking to a man.
The exhibition born from the creative cooperation of Ž.Mikšys and R.G. Mordmüller is a valuable example worth seeing at Laiptai Gallery in Šiauliai. A. Warhol: “I wanted to draw nothing. I searched for something that would contain the essence of nothing, that’s it.” The works of A.Warhol presented in Kaunas are barely known; still, they correspond to the aim of the artist: to celebrate the popular culture, no matter whether we are speaking about the queen, member of the parliament, singer, actress or a star taken to the sky due to some scandal.
Theatre should resist the squall of mass culture, it should not surrender. The main function of theatre has always been the same: creation of spiritual infrastructure. Theatre can do much more than the society thinks it can. Amusement may be provided by various shows, circuses, popular street events. Meanwhile, theatre is a powerful instrument of self-analysis, the place where one should feel and think, switch on the machine of associations, reflect the past and the future.
